If you are thinking of a career at the Family Bar, a mini-pupillage at QEB is a great way to start. It provides you with an introduction to one of the country’s very top family law sets. It also gives us an opportunity to see what you have to offer.

Due to the Coronavirus outbreak, we are not currently offering full mini-pupillages.  We have launched a virtual mini-pupillage experience designed to provide an opportunity to gain valuable insight into life at QEB and the Family Bar whilst the Family Court remains working remotely.

The next QEB Virtual Mini-Pupillage Experience will be taking place on Monday, 24 January 2022.

Our one-day remote experience will take place by video-link (Zoom) from 10.30am to 4.30pm.  Across the day you will have the opportunity to meet with different members of chambers and to take part in a mock court exercise.  In advance of the day, you will receive your own ‘brief’ and court papers to allow you to prepare for the advocacy exercise, and afterwards you will have the chance to discuss and receive feedback from a member of chambers.

Applications for the QEB Virtual Mini-Pupillage Experience should be made using the form below.  Chambers does not accept applications for mini-pupillage from applicants who are under 18 years of age.

The next deadline for applications is Friday, 31 December 2021.  Applicants will be informed of the outcome of their application shortly after this date.

Our mini-pupillages are informally assessed, and we keep a full record of your time in chambers. We invite those you spend time with, as far as they are able in the time you are with them, to indicate whether they consider you demonstrate the qualities and abilities we look for in our pupillage candidates and accordingly whether, were you to apply, you should be invited to attend an interview for pupillage. Please note, it is not necessary for you to undertake a mini-pupillage for you to be considered for interview.

If you are thinking about applying for a mini-pupillage at QEB, you will need to be able to answer three important questions:

  • Do I want to be a barrister?
  • Do I want to specialise in family law?
  • Would I want a pupillage at QEB?

If you have any questions regarding the completion or content of the mini-pupillage application form, or about mini-pupillage in general, please e-mail [email protected]. The mini-pupillage secretary will endeavour to respond to your query as soon as possible.
