QEB is extremely proud to announce that James Ewins KC has been appointed by His Majesty the King as a High Court Judge, assigned to the Family Division, effective from 19 October 2026.

James started his pupillage at QEB in 1996 and became a tenant here in 1997. He was appointed King’s Counsel in 2016 and has been Joint Head of Chambers since 2024.

He has 30 years of experience in family finance cases, instructed in a wide variety of complex and high-value cases. He is renowned as a highly impressive silk, praised in Chambers and Partners as being “top of his field” with “incredible client care skills combined with outstanding advocacy”.

James has been a Deputy High Court Judge (Family Division) since 2023, and a much in-demand private FDR evaluator and IFLA arbitrator.

QEB offers huge congratulations to James on this well-earned appointment and wishes him every success in his judicial career. We will very much miss him in chambers.
