Overview
The “brilliant, inclusive and charming” (Legal 500 2012) Charles Hyde KC has an “enviable practice as a smooth operator in high value money cases” (Chambers & Partners 2013). Moreover, his expertise is also recognised in Children law. He is one of a few London silks ranked in both financial and children work.
He took silk after only 18 years at the bar. Having spent 20 years practising on the Western Circuit, he joined QEB in 2009. At QEB Charles has appeared in a number of reported and well publicised cases.
Solicitors and lay clients are attracted by his pragmatic, ‘no-nonsense’ and client focused approach, designed to achieve the best outcome at the least possible emotional cost. His pragmatic approach reflects years of work at the Bar and also experience sitting at the Royal Courts of Justice as a Deputy High Court Judge, where he hears the most complex financial and children cases. His judicial experience is not confined to London; he sits as a Recorder (in Private and Public Law) all over the West of England and keeps abreast with what is happening in the family courts outside London.
He is a regular lecturer both nationally and internationally. In spring 2013 he presented to the IAML Conference in Salzburg. Previously he appeared at a workshop at the European Parliament, to consider the extent to which there is scope for a unified European approach to Matrimonial Law. Domestically, he has provided many seminars and lectured for Jordans and Butterworths on their National Courses.
He has contributed to a number of legal publications including the Halsburys Laws Vol 5 (Children), Essential Family Practice and the Encyclopaedia of Financial Provision. Charles has been a member of the Family Procedure Rules Committee since 2004.
