OUR
HISTORY
Foundation
Chambers was founded at the end of the 19th century and has occupied its current
location since 1957. Queen Elizabeth Building itself overlooks the River
Thames and the Gardens of Middle Temple. The Royal Courts of Justice are 5
minutes' walk from QEB and the Principal Registry of the Family Division is
only 5 minutes further away.
Advocates
QEB has, and has always had, an excellent reputation for the quality of advocates
it produces. Many members of Chambers have continued into high judicial office.
In the last 50
years former members have included such distinguished advocates as Lord Pearce
(a Law Lord), Sir Harry Phillimore (a Lord Justice of Appeal and counsel at
the Nuremberg War Trials), and Sir Roger Ormrod, who led the development of
Family Law in the Court of Appeal in the 1970s. They were followed
by Sir Robin Dunn, also in the Court of Appeal, and Sir James Comyn, regarded
by many as the outstanding advocate of his time.
In the year 2000
no less than 8 former members of Chambers were sitting as High Court Judges.
Judges
At present, former Members of Chambers who are Judges are: Sir Nicholas Wilson,
who has recently been appointed a Lord Justice of Appeal and, in the High
Court Family Division; Mr Justice Bennett, Mr Justice Holman, Mr Justice Bodey,
Mr Justice Coleridge, Mrs Justice Baron and Mr Justice Moylan. Recent retirements have
been Mr Justice Johnson, Mr Justice Cazalet and Mr Justice Connell. Other former members of Chambers who are now Judges are: His Honour Judge
Karsten QC, His Honour Judge Lord Meston QC, His Honour Judge Wright and District Judge Bradley, who
sits in the Principal Registry. His Honour Judge Hamilton has recently
retired from the Circuit Bench. |
