Practice
profile
Tim's practice spans all aspects of family law.
He is predominantly known as an expert in "big money" family finance,
married or unmarried, alive or dead (including claims under the Inheritance
Act). Tim is especially interested in Anglo-German cases and those with a
foreign or international element. He is also a qualified Collaborative Lawyer and the first Collaborative Family Law QC.
From 2001-8 Tim was Standing Counsel to the Queen's Proctor,
a government appointment to advise the Treasury Solicitor on all matters
of family law with a public interest element, including the validity of foreign
marriages and divorces. Tim completed his tenure of this position on being sworn in as a QC in March 2008.
Tim
is fluent in German (including legal German) and has conversational French.
He has undertaken work experience in German Courts and German law firms.
This has led to his involvement in an increasing number of cases with an Anglo-German
element and/or German-speaking clients or witnesses, and those with disclosure
issues relating to assets in German-speaking jurisdictions.
Professional
Reputation
Already as a junior, Tim was consistently ranked in the top class of leading juniors in
Family Law by the leading professional directories. He has been variously described as having 'awesome ability to cut
through detail', an 'unshakeable grasp of a case' and 'rigorous attention
to detail', and being 'fairly tough but very nice, you know that he is
really going to take a case forward.' The 2008 edition of Chambers and Partners Directory said 'he should really be in silk'. He now is.
Tim
was named Family Law Junior Barrister of the year at the
2005 Chambers and Partners Awards Ceremony and nominated for the same award in both 2006 and 2007. He was appointed QC in 2008.
