James has previously been described in Chambers and Partners as an exceptionally talented up and coming junior with numeracy skills displayed in cases running into many millions of pounds; IT friendly, with strong client skills...whose analytical prowess makes him a popular choice. He has been considered as a rising star who is, dependable and able to structure a case well. He is rated for his good grasp of complex ancillary relief work and is described as a superb advocate who is excellent with clients and intellectually able to prepare cases.In the 2008 edition James is described as "a key member of the winning team in the Charman appeal" who "impresses as thorough,careful and efficient".
He now practices exclusively in family law, specialising in ancillary relief and financial cases relating to co-habitation and co-ownership as well as Inheritance Act cases. In the recent past he has acted in a wide range of financial cases, ranging from low income families to multi-million pound cases. He has experience of cases involving complex asset structures including pension, commercial, trust and internationally held assets. He also has experience of international enforcement issues, and has appeared as an expert witness in the USA. He also undertakes private law children work.
He has also worked as a Junior in a wide range of complex and "big money" cases with many silks from the Family bar both at QEB and elsewhere.

Appointments
and Memberships
James was appointed to the C Panel of Treasury Counsel in 2001 and he represented the Queen's Proctor in several family cases.
Education
James read Jurisprudence at New College, Oxford where he specialised in
Family Law. He was awarded the Astbury Scholarship by The Honourable Society
of the Middle Temple in 1995.
Personal
Married, with two children; a keen sailor, skier and tennis player,
with a couple of marathons under his belt; committed member of St Mark's
Church, Battersea with a personal interest and involvement in modern anti-slavery campaigns. |
