Charles specialises in all aspects of family law, his success being marked by his taking silk in 2006.
He joined QEB in 2009 having formerly practised in Bristol. Chambers and Partners note that this “star” of the Western Circuit is expected to develop a strong practice in London. At QEB Charles has appeared in a number of reported and well publicised cases across the broad compass of family law.
Last year he spoke at the European Parliament, at a workshop to consider the extent to which there is scope for a unified European approach to Matrimonial Law.
Chambers and Partners have described him as “intellectually in a class of his own” and “as always having the ear of the court”.
Beyond his practice, Charles sits as a Recorder with authority to sit in Private and Public Law. He has been a member of the Family Procedure Rules Committee since 2004.

Personal Charles is married with three children. He is an enthusiastic natural historian. He enjoys any live music and watching the progress of his sons’ bands. He is a keen spectator of sport and endeavours to keep reasonably fit.
